Welcome to the 107th edition of Content Nausea. You can read No. 106 right here. Please let me know what you think. Thank you for being here. Here is the welcome blog.
Hello, it’s been a while. I hope everyone is doing well. It’s been a busy couple of months. I guess this is a thing that I want to continue doing, so I’ll try to continue doing it. Maybe I’ll start doing some ‘fun’ stuff with the Notes feature? Who knows. Anyway, some musings.
Some content I wrote over the past two months
I’ve written a lot of stories in the past two months in a couple different interesting locations. I am trying to remember a couple off of the top of my head that were good, but nothing is really clicking in a thorough way.
A look at what the seniors on Penn State’s basketball team accomplished this season.
A seventh-year senior makes his return to the NCAA Tournament.
The NCAA Tournament afforded a unique opportunity to a program not accustomed to much visibility.
Saw some history in the NCAA Tournament.
On getting up after a letdown.
A dispatch from a wild week in Chicago.
Capping an epic comeback by being in the right place at the right time.
Some content I listened to in time
I’m trying to name five albums that have come out this year… The new Wednesday album is good… The new Lana Del Rey album didn’t imprint on me… Um…
My 032k23 playlist ended up with only two songs on it — “Don’t Fade Away” by Beach Fossils and “Black Earth, WI” by Ratboys — and the 042k23 playlist has six songs on it so far. So we’ll see. I still owe everyone my top albums list from 2022. I think the Beach Fossils record is going to be great.
But Rat Saw God is a good album. I could say more if I had a better frame of reference for it.
The vibes [spring] playlist continues to hold up:
Some content I read sort of recently
This story by my friend Pedro about walking all of Sunset Boulevard in one day is the most recent story to earn the “2023” tag in my Pocket queue. There hasn’t been much activity there.
I had been complaining to myself recently about how I wasn’t doing much of anything (a post for a different day), especially reading, but I was able to knock out a couple books while I was traveling, and it remains a satisfying experience to finish something concrete.
Recent books I finished:
Liberation Day by George Saunders
The Big Short by Michael Lewis
Central Places by Delia Cai
Stay True by Hua Hsu
Stay True is the one from that list that’s going to really stay with me. It’s a beautiful tribute to friendship and a wonderful document. I haven’t read much this year, but it’s the best thing I’ve read by a mile. Central Places was also a fun read that I enjoyed.
Some other content I saw or thought about at some point in time
I saw Everything Everywhere All at Once a couple weeks ago, and it was good. It was much funnier than I expected. I’m not a film knower, so I don’t have too much to add to that.
I believe I have found my favorite cider in the world: Five Point from Star Cider in Canandaigua, N.Y.
I have been trying to point something in the direction of doing things this summer and not squandering the time that I have, but it’s reminded that I’ve done some decent traveling this year: Los Angeles; Philadelphia; Bethlehem, Pa.; Pontiac, Mich.; College Park, Md.; Philadelphia; Canandaigua; Chicago; Des Moines, Iowa. A random, but not the worst selection. Hopefully, more will be added to it. I got to see the river get dyed green for St. Patrick’s Day, and then on actual St. Patrick’s Day, I got to freeze myself walking around Des Moines.
This is also the point of the newsletter where I would embed tweets by people who are much more clever than me, but I’m not quite sure that feature is still available.
(It is not, but this is the tweet I was going to embed).
I was going to write about the Meg White discourse from a couple weeks ago, but we all know where I stand on that and what the right answer is. It’s very funny that the guy still has his tweets locked. I watched a couple White Stripes DVDs a few weeks ago and have been revisiting parts of the discography, and it’s still one of the most important bands of our time, and if you think you could make it ‘better,’ then you’re obviously missing the point.
Thank you for reading the 107th edition of Content Nausea. It will get better. Thank you, and see you soon.
Your heart is cold as ice girl
I should know I've been to the north pole
Your soul is black as death girl
I should know I have crossed the threshold
Your style is such a mess girl
I should know I used to date a stylist
